Hi, I’m Dr. Jason L. Pickel, DC. Founder of the Thyroid Solutions Program. I help people with thyroid symptoms like these: fatigue, hair loss, depression, weight gain, constipation….
If you ask about 8 to 10 of your friends or co-workers, probably one of them has been diagnosed with “low thyroid”–also called “hypothyroid.” Low thyroid is epidemic. Even Oprah has “low” thyroid.
But…even though low thyroid is common and ruins the lives of millions... the standard medical care does not work for a surprising number of people.
The standard of care, medically speaking, for any person with “low thyroid” is to prescribe replacement thyroid hormones. Almost never–and I mean never— does the doctor try to determine WHY the woman has low thyroid function.
The answer to that question is the key to the puzzle of why you still feel awful. The answer to that question “Why?” will determine whether you ever feel good again, or whether you will continue to feel terrible even though you’re taking the medication and your labs looks “normal.”
Why do you have low thyroid?
Here’s the shocking truth you’re doctor won’t tell you….
In America the #1 cause of low thyroid is an Autoimmune condition called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

This means that if you have been diagnosed with “low thyroid,” then there’s a good chance you have an autoimmune condition.
Your immune system has turned-on-you, and is targeting your thyroid gland…attacking it…. and that attack is causing you to have low thyroid function and suffer from low thyroid symptoms such as fatigue, hair loss, depression, and weight gain.
When this autoimmune condition is ignored (and the “standard” medical doctor does ignore it), you will permanently lose more and more of your thyroid gland…bit by bit….and you will feel more depression, more fatigue, and feel more like giving up and learning to live with it.
The “standard of care” for this problem is giving you replacement thyroid hormones. You understand by now that this is not a thyroid hormone problem. That’s not the battle here. This is an immune system battle; an autoimmune battle.
Other autoimmune conditions you may have heard of: Multiple Sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, scleroderma.
What I’m telling you (and I hope this is sinking in) is the number one cause of low thyroid in America is an autoimmune process just like these devastating conditions…MS, Rheumatoid Arthrtis and Lupus.
The bad news, if you suffer with low thyroid and Hashimoto’s, is the hidden cause….
Taking replacement thyroid hormones such as Synthroid®, Levoxyl ®, or Armour®, will NOT help stop this autoimmune attack.
The medical doctor is going to monitor the levels of you thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). He’s going to try to make it stay within a certain numerical range by constantly adjusting the dosage of your medication. But— TSH is not a good marker to use if you have Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis.
You see, the TSH of a woman with Hashimoto’s goes HIGH and LOW almost at random. The TSH could be high one week, but low the next week. TSH levels do not get at the root of your problem. Monitoring and managing your TSH won’t help your autoimmune condition.
Your immune system is the problem.
At the Center for Thyroid Solutions I work on “squashing” that autoimmune condition because when this autoimmune condition is triggered, and your immune system attacks your thyroid, you can’t stop it. You can’t cure it.
But if you don’t slow down the autoimmune condition… if you don’t try to squash it, balance, and calm down the immune system… it has a nasty habit of marching on and attacking other organs in your body…
The immune system will attack not only the thyroid, but it will start attacking the cells in the lining of your stomach that help you be able to absorb B-12 and you’ll end up with a pernicious anemia.
Then it’ll move on and attack your pancreas and make you have blood sugar and insulin problems.
Then the immune system can penetrate even further and attack a part of your brain called your cerebellum. You’ll end up with vertigo, dizziness, and balance problems.
You are probably asking yourself… “Why is this autoimmune condition ignored?”
The answer: the standard model doesn’t care if you have an autoimmune condition. You’re still going to get prescribed thyroid hormones. If you continue to have other symptoms, you will get other medications like anti-depressants, antacids, and pain killers.
They don’t know how to specifically help this immune system problem.
But I do know how to help a woman with Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis.
Working with someone that has Hashimoto’s is actually simple…
You’ve got to find out how and why the immune system has gone off the rails and become unbalanced.
It’s like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. I look for all the pieces of the puzzle (and there are many)– then…
I will know how to calm down the immune system of a woman suffering with Hashimoto’s so she can feel normal again.
So if you know a woman that’s suffering with low thyroid symptoms…
…or a woman diagnosed with Hashimoto’s who’s being forced to endure it…
….She’s taking thyroid medication. She doesn’t feel good….
It’s time to find someone who can thoroughly investigate her thyroid problem. Someone who will leave no stone unturned in the quest to discover the cause of her low thyroid symptoms and then eliminate them.
